To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
The bigger question is WHY would you want to
administer rabies vaccine yourself? By doing so not
only do you risk the health of the ferret , my
understanding is UNLESS Rabies vaccines are
administered by liocensed veterinarians, they are not
recognized by state or health officials -- which means
that if there is a question - ier your ferret nips,
bites someone adn there is a rabies scare- the vaccine
you adnministered does not gtet recognized-- your
ferret is unvaccinated as far as the state adn health
community is concerned.
WHY risk the reaction when it affords your pet no
protections in the case of bite incidents.
If your vet is ordering up the vaccine for you, then
she or he can surely administer it for you.
Canine distemper shots can be administered by owners
in many states legally. There is not a human exposure
risk like there is with rabies.
All in all , when a lay person does administer
vaccines there are always risks associated with it.
