Subject: [ferrethealth] Drastic weight loss after adrenal surgery - ???
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

One of "our" critters (now in a happy home) had adrenal surgery recently. Since the
surgery he has been dropping weight like a stone, despite eating well almost
immediately after surgery. Mom has been supplementing with Nutrical and much
hand delivered kibble (Totally Ferret), yet he continues to lose ounces. He's been
spry as can be for the 4 weeks since surgery...although as of the past couple of days
he's been slowing down. He is normally at least 2#, a slender fellow compared to
some normally, but now he's down to less than a pound. He's been on pred for 3
weeks.

Doc said his left adrenal looked really wierd when he operated. Yes, that's my
highly scientific classification. :) He sent the removed gland out for testing:
"Benign but unclassified abnormalities; further test to run" and the samples were
going off to Michigan State but I don't have any results yet.

I would imagine if he has a malignancy in there it could be eating him up (again I'm
using my very own highly scientific terms), but is there anything else to consider?
Perhaps some recommended testing to figure out if this or that is at work?
