Subject: [ferrethealth] Farting ferret
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Fizzbin, a neutered male about 10 months old, has been farting rather loudly as he poops for the last couple of weeks. The stools are pretty soft and unformed, but not to the point of being watery diarrhea. He doesn't seem to have any other symptoms, and I haven't heard a fart except when he poops. No evidence of straining, and he's not going to the box more often than usual. Perhaps 6-8 times each 24 hours. No unusual coloration or seediness, just various shades of brown.

His kibble mix is about 40% Totally Ferret, 40% Natural Gold, 10% Marshall's, and 10% Ferret Store Natural. (He seems to be discarding the Ferret Store pieces, so I will probably remove them from the mix.) He gets about half a teaspoon of 50:50 ferretone:olive oil every morning, and a Marshall's bacon-flavored treat every evening.

Any ideas? This doesn't seem to be urgent, and I will probably have him to the vet for a melatonin implant within a couple of weeks, but I will make an appointment immediately if it's an early sign of something serious.

Brett
