Been back to the vets, they can't do an ultrasound of the heart as the vets=
are not used to using ultrasound on such a small heart. I could try and
find a vet who can.
Riley did have an x-ray and his heart is greatly enlarged (the left side of=
the heart). My vet didn't believe it was cardiomyopathy until she saw the
x-ray... Can it still be hypertrophic if the heart is enlarged? Or does
that automatically mean that it is dilated cardiomyopathy? Can ferrets wit=
h
dilated cardiomyopathy suddenly go into heart failure without showing
symptoms previously? Or would that indicate hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?
My Tara had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and her symptoms came on very
suddenly and were very severe, just as Riley's. My ferrets with dilated
cardiomyopathy had slow onset of symptoms.
Strangely none of my ferrets with cardiomyopathy had weight loss. Riley is=
even podgy. Still has an appetite but is finding eating very difficult (I
had feed him of course). =
