Subject: [ferrethealth] Update on Shelly's Liver Enzymes and question

So...she had an abdominal ultrasound at Tufts because their
machine has great resolution (detail). Her liver looked normal, and
no signs of masses or lipidosis. So...next step that day was a fine
needle aspirate. Results came back, as they often do, as
"inconclusive." This is because, as some of you know, the
aspiration process can distort cells obtained this way. However,
the pathologist stated the results "suggest" metastasis of endocrine
tumors. In Shelly's case, this would be either from her insulinoma
or adrenal disease.

My question involves her current meds: I have been decreasing
her prednisolone and have added diazoxide to counter the
hypoglycemia. I also thought this might ease workload on her liver.
BUT, will decreasing the pred allow a cancer to run rampant?

SHe's been put on some supplements for the liver and we are
rechecking serum chemistries in a week to see if the supplements
help. If not, we'll be forced to do biopsy since that's the gold
standard to diagnose liver disease. It's slightly possible there could
be bacterial or fungal infection although her normal CBC indicates
not, to me at least.

I'm just worried that by lowering her pred dose I'm letting cancer
grow faster. But if I raise pred dose to old levels, I'll stress her liver.

Feedback?

Thanks
Skyla
