Subject: [ferrethealth] Long overdue update on Lymphoma
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I haven't been on this list in quite a while, but thought I'd post a LONG OVERDUE update on my ferret Twizzler.

Some of you may remember that, quite a while ago, I posted asking for recommendations on my ferret that had just been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Well, in one week (April 10), it will be

. . . Drumroll please . . .

17 MONTHS SINCE HER DIAGNOSIS!!!!!

Yes, you read that right, 17 months! And she's still going strong. Oh, she's slowed down quite a bit, she's on pain meds once a day now, and her feedings are being supplemented with chicken baby food. She's also lost almost all of her hair (not sure if it's from long-term high-dose pred, or if she's developed adrenal disease now).

But she still has that glint in her eyes, still comes out to greet us anytime we come in their room, still comes running for her food. She gives ear-snuffles, and occasionally even feels up for a wrestling match with her brother, Tanner.

And all of this with only pred and Essiac (well, Flor-Essence). (My vet and I had decided that chemo was not a reasonable risk for her.)

Just thought I'd share our good fortune, in case someone needed a smile!

Knocking on wood now,

Becky
