Have you noticed any coughing/wheezing?

Did your vet hear a murmur?

Ultrasound is super important if you want to zero in on exactly what kind of heart
disease it is. My clinic found an ultrasonographer that went from clinic to clinic. He
was excellent. Perhaps your vet can try tracking one down in your area. Or better
yet, maybe you can? Try contacting the nearest vet school in your area and see if
they have any recommendations.

One of my kids has valvular degeneration of her heartk, which was diagnosed with
an ultrasound. Her mitral and tricuspid valves aren't working properly. It's not
dilated cardio, nor hypertrophic. If anything, it would be closer to endocardiosis
("typically" found in dogs). So as you can see there are various types of heart
disease, hence the need for the ultrasound. You will be better equipped to help
your ferret with a proper course of treatment once it's been correctly diagnosed.

On a side note, she hasn't lost any weight and neither did my first ferret that had
dilated cardio. There will always be the exception to the "rule".

Good luck.
