Subject: [ferrethealth] re: coughing/choking fits
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hi,

My little guy (about 3.5 years old) has a collapsed trechea also. He's always had
symptoms however. The vet didn't give me anything specific to do for it, and he's a
very good ferret surgeon/doctor. What I have been doing and find very effective for
Shinsei is to 'wet' his throat for him. The noise is as you know, truly awful, so when
it wakes me up I immediately go for his special treatment bowl. I either squirt some
Ferretone in (about 1/2 teaspoon) by itself or 1/2 tspn ferretone mized with 1tspn
water. 99% of the time he never has another couching fit again for the rest of the
night.

BTW, I wouldn't disregard what your previous vet said just because the new one
disagrees. My previous vet said it was all allergies, alllergies, allergies but after
months of testing this theory out, there was no improvement at all for Shinsei. Plus,
we were already live in a spic and span house as it was becasue my own indoor and
outdoor allergies are quite severe.

Hope you can find some help!

MD and the fuzzy5
