Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Update on Shelly's Liver Enzymes and question
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
She has been on Melotonin, Lupron, and Arimidex which were all
unsuccessful at controlling the adrenal androgens. The problem
though is that (and a vet suggested this in response to a post on
VIN) what has metastasized to her liver is probably cancer not
hyperplasia. Which is why it didn't respond to the medical
intervention addressing the hormones. So, if it's cancerous, it will
destroy her liver. Pred could slow this but lupron/melo/etc won't.
But pred is really tough on the liver, so using it for her BG is
somewhat counter-productive.
That's my dilemma--I have her on diazoxide now for her BG to
spare her liver. But, if the pred is keeping the cancer in check...?
But, at the same time, if it's overworking the organ it's supposed to
be helping...?
