Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: treating thyroid problems

If by imaged, you mean xrayed, then yes, several times. In early fall, he got an xray
which looked like fluids around the heart. The vet immediately rexrayed with a
straightened spine and the fluids went away. Either at that point or some time
before he went through a round of antibiotics for an invisible respiratory infection--
a default guess.

About 6 weeks later he was xrayed again, and seemed to have a mass. I asked about
whether they'd remembered to straighten his spine, and the vet said yes, and
pointed out different values on the xray. said because of the density it had to be a
tumor. That's when Buddy got his death sentence. Of course I let him eat as much
soup as he wanted. Just before that, his appetite VERY suddenly became voracious--
that was one of the concerns I came in with. Not seasonal, not like him at all, just
weird. And his torso became much more trunk-like and less flexible just before
that, not as a result of the fat.

Then maybe 6 weeks ago he went back in--still alive, but sleeping a lot more. That
xray showed "something going on" around his heart but no tumors at all. That's the
one in the file.

Last week, the day before seeing the new vet, I heard back from a shelter owner/
friend who had emailed the latest xray to a vet. She didn't see anything around the
heart, said he had lots of fat, and suggested that if we really wanted to see
everything, we should do a barium xray.

The next day, at the new vet, he was xrayed again. This vet also saw nothing
unusual around the heart and said Buddy had too much intra-abdominal fat.
Explained about the color values equalling density--I don't know whetherv that
makes it a guess or not. He said he saw no reason to do a barium. When I asked
about the labored, pained breathing, he said it was probably arthritis but could be
hormonal. That's when he tentatively mentioned thyroid, putting that together with
the other symptoms--two flaky balding patches about the size of a little finger print
on the shoulder blade sides, occasional dribbles, light balding on tops of rear toes
and in the tiny slivers behind his ears. Buddy just---his hair is so rich and soft,
especially for a 7-8 year old.

Marrow aspirate sound incredible painful, and like something that may well not be
available in our state. What are ascites? Tumors?
