Subject: [ferrethealth] Bleeding After Surgery
To: <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

My 5 year old ferret had what we thought would be a simple lump
removal/biopsy yesterday.

I noticed a hard small lump under his front leg on Sunday.

When my vet examined more closely, she also felt a lump on his jaw, and
another on inside of rear leg.
We decided to remove all 3.

After surgery, he hemorrhaged into the tissue at all 3 sites, but especially
the jaw.

That tumor was connected to a small blood vessel that she had sutured.

She finally had to go back in and pack the area with a foam gel substance
and apply a pressure wrap around his head.

This morning his head resembles a tiny black bowling ball, his gums are
black, and there is much more bruising at all 3 sites.

The pre-op blood work was fine, nothing to indicate any potential problem
like this.

The lumps did turn out to be lymph nodes.

We are puzzled as to what caused this excessive bleeding.

I was able to syringe feed Carnivore Care every 3 hours through the night,
and he is eager to eat/drink that.
I also gave torb injections for pain, he is obviously very uncomfortable.

I am returning to the vet at 9:30 for follow-up.

Any thoughts?
I searched the archives, found some bleeding info, but not something like
this.
