Subject: [ferrethealth] intermittent diarrhea
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hello everybody,
Yakuka my two and a half years old male ferret has had intermittnet diarrhea for almost two weeks now. I took him to my vet over a week ago after noticing very loose stool which was kind of orange color.
He also had some gelly kind and we could see orange dots.(kind of looked like blood to me) Anyway when we took him to my vet they did a stool sample and there was no indication of bad bacteria. My vet prescribed Clavamox 25cc twice a day, Kaopactate every six to eight hours 1-2 ml and Acidophilus&Bifidus 1/4 of a capsule twice a day away from antibiotic.
The first couple of days we thought he was getting better but he started having diarrhea again. It has been orange and green colored and sometimes it is very watery. Other times he has normal stool.
I called my vet today and she said it might be the Clavamox causing diarrhea and so she is going to prescribe another antibiotic for him. Yakuka absolutely hates the Clavamox and he always gages when he is given.
Anybody would have any input on this please?
Thank you ever so much,
a worried momy
