Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: hairballs and enlarged spleens?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

An enlarged spleen can indicate an infection. If I come across a ferret with an enlarged spleen for no obvious reason, I usually advise that the owner has that ferret's teeth checked.

Poor dental health is not always obvious at first glance. Cracked teeth can lead to bacteria entering the blood stream without the teeth or gums appearing diseased. Unexplained enlarged spleens or kidney failure can sometimes be the first noticed indication.
