Subject: [ferrethealth] teeth grinding is getting worse, please help.
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
I was wondering if anyone could help me with my ferret
Ellie.
Ellie is 8 1/2 yrs old. She is minus left adrenal and
been on Lupron shots every 4 months for many years for
treatment of right adrenal. Last April she got ill
with strange breathing and allergy like symptoms. Vet
said most likely a tumor and she would be gone soon.
That was a year ago. We decided as a last resort to
treat with pred. Eventually she got better and has
had a good quality of life up until recently. Also
she was on duck soup for 9months and then decided one
day to eat kibble on her own? That is some backround
info. 3 weeks ago she stopped eating the kibble again
and started grinding her teeth. We treated with amoxi
for 2weeks and carafate. I have past experience with
ulcers and carafate has been a wonder drug for us. It
has had no positive effects on her. Also we stopped
(gradually) the pred a few weeks ago. We have also
given pepcid a try and started her back on pred? She
is hungry, she wants to eat and now she can't even get
through a meal without grinding her teeth. She even
does it for a while after the meal and at times I have
heard her do it in her sleep? I am freaking out, I
can't seem to help her and i don't know what else to
do? I think it is getting close to us having to put
her to sleep? Is the grinding pain or an upset tummy?
If it is pain then she is in a lot of it. She is old
and blind and fat! She strains to pee and has to walk
around to poop and she is starting to loose her hair,
I guess the Lupron is not working anymore?! I
apologize for this being so long. We want what's best
for her and it's so hard to make the final decision.
It's all up to us cause our vets don't know enough
about ferrets. This list has helped me so much
throughout the years. I am greatful. Any suggestions
would be appreciated. We have had ferrets for 10
years. Ellie is our last old girl. Please e-mail me
directly I am unable to view the list that is sent to
me? sweetpforan@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Kelly
