I know of no reason to assume that kibble fed ferrets are dehydrated, nor would I off-hand expect any decent difference in specific gravity.

Personally, I would take the idea seriously that there may be kidney disease beginning unless the ferret expert vets say otherwise.

You will want to keep the little one very hydrated. Look into giving fish oil for trhe Omega 3 fatty acids. Reducing the phosphorous levels might help as may adding potassium citrate. A kidney disease food (some reduce protein but I don't know if all do) like feline K/D or Eukanuba feline renal diet mixed 50/50 with Totally Ferrets
Senior food or Marshall's senior food might help.

There is a decent bit in the archives about kidney disease.

If you have a copy of the Australian ferret text (I would not be surprised if the first edition can be found on sale now), _Ferret Husbandry, Medicine and Surgery_, you will notice that in that country where there seems to be more raw and prey feeding that the same range of diseases exists as in the U.S. and that starting on page 159 there are 10 pages on kidney and other urinary tract diseases which reads like the texts written here read.
