For ECE it is all supportive care, and if secondary problems happen then those need treatment. It is not always easy to know what sort of secondary problem is occurring so different things may need to be tried. Some ferrets with ECE need daily sub-cu fluid injections or even IV.

If memory serves a 2 pound ferret needs to have about 75 ml of water a day, BUT if the fluid is being lost faster or the kidneys are in danger then the amount needed is larger. (We have had one with kidney disease of a different type who needed at least twice as much fluid as normal to get him past his problem.)

START QUOTE of Mike Janke
There are many Duck Soup Recipes that can be fed to your ferret to support him or her during the onslaught of ECE; however, Gerber's chicken baby food is probably the simplest and at the same time, the best. It can't be stressed enough that your ferret has to eat and drink, no matter how much it doesn't feel like doing so. Feed at least 4 times a day, more if the ferret can only be made to eat small amounts. The bare minimum required for survival is 20cc's (1 teaspoon = 5 cc's) three times a day.
