Subject: [ferrethealth] Irritable Bowel Disease
One of my ferrets is on pediapred for what we suspect could be irritable bowel disease.
I was wondering what diets others use for this. I feed her a mix of A/D and ground cooked rabbit. She has gained so much weight. I know the pred puts on weight as well as the A/D.
I have read that sometimes ferrets with IBD have a difficult time maintaining their weight, which makes me wonder if she does have IBD or possibly just a food allergy.
Would it be a good idea to slowly take her off the pediapred and continue with a proper diet and see what happens? Other than her significant weight gain, she is doing very well.
Thanks.
Inge
