Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Diabetes after pancreatectomy
To: FHL <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

We skipped his Pred yesterday morning since stopping/weaning off the
meds seemed to be the recommendation by everyone that replied to my
post. We were finally able to see a vet yesterday afternoon. Kodo's
glucose was finally down to 129. Since that was in the normal range,
they didn't check any other values. He was mildly dehydrated, so he was
given 20cc of SubQ fluids, and we brought fluids home in case he needs
anymore, on an as needed basis. The vet that saw him thought it was a
good idea that we skipped Kodo's morning meds yesterday, and recommended
that we skip last night's dose also. He said to give his normal dose of
the 0.75ml this morning, but to stop his evening doses, cutting his dose
in half. It was suggested to go with this dose for about 5 days and
then cut it back again.

* Does this sound like a good plan or aren't the meds being cut back
quick enough?
* Kodo was not checked for kidney function. Should we be concerned and
possibly check for ketones using the strips for humans?
* If he's drinking water regularly, should we still be giving him the
SubQ fluids?

He seems to be eating and drinking fairly well on his own, which is good
to see.
