Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: ferret after an accident-what to do?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I was sorry to here about your ferret Roger's problems.

It does sound to me as if there is nerve damage as a result of his <accident>, recovery from this injury will depend on how serious an injury it was.
There may some, none or full recovery. As he is now walking OK that is evidence of some recovery at least and there may be more over time.
The two folowing links refer to human spinal chord injuries and possible treatments.

(this link refers to treatment with white blood cells tested on lab rats)

http://www.flinders.edu.au/news/articles/?fj20v12s01
(this is a general discussion of spinal chord treatment research)

These kind of treatments may not be available in Poland (or anywhere else) and would probably be very expensive.

You could try to contact a spinal injuries unit for humans in Poland and ask about any research being conducted or treatments used.

You should carry on to encourage him to be active and there may be a spontaneous improvement oover a long time.

You seem to be a very kind person and wish you and Roger all the best.

Regards Tony

My home is ferret proof - my heart is not.
