Subject: [ferrethealth] a new front for the development of drugs to treat sepsis
June 2006 Scientific American, page 24
Nicotine has been demonstrated to bind to the acetylcholine receptors facilitating communication between the brain and the immune system BUT nicotine is itself too dangerous, being toxic, carcinogenic, and also damaging to the circulatory system, so while it itself is not recommended they will now begin investigating medications which also can bind to the acetylcholine receptors without having such hazards.
The research was done by a team led by Luis Ulloa of North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY
