Subject: [ferrethealth] Sammy

My ferret Sammy is sick and his vet and I have researched many articles and=
information looking for what may me wrong with Sammy, but we are still los=
t. For the last two weeks Sammy has been gradually losing his appetite unti=
l Friday May 12, 2006 he would not eat at all. I took him to his vet to hav=
e blood work done and his vet gave him some DEX and fluids. Prior to the bl=
ood work being taken Sammy had been on flagyl, amoxi, pred and tagement. Sa=
mmy=92s blood glucose which was taken a week ago around May 6 and it was 80=
. For the past couple of years Sammy has went through these phases of have =
lots of mucus in his stools and sometimes blood, he never had any vomiting,=
so along the way he has been treated with amoxi, flagyl and pred. Sammy wo=
uld get better on the flagyl until the next time he would have the mucus wi=
th his stool. Now he is eating smaller amounts of food and walks like he is=
weaker. His vet called my today May 13, 2006 and gave the results of his b=
lood work. At this time the values that stand out the most is a very low gl=
ucose 35 (Sammy=92s vet said this could be because he wasn=92t eating), an =
elevated creatnine which his vet said may be because he was a little dehydr=
ated on Friday, also his WBC count was 22000, his platelets were a little l=
ow, the leukocytes and neutrophils were also elevated and this is all his v=
et said were abnormal. I don=92t understand how his blood sugar can go from=
80 to 35 in a week=92s time. I would really appreciate any comments and he=
lp with Sammy's problem. =

Also He has been on Flagyl and amoxi for about a few days now should I be s=
eeing allot of difference in his behavior and health status? He quit eating=
on Friday and we took him to the vet for the blood work and he also got de=
x and fluids. When Sammy came home he looked better and he actually looked =
and acted like he felt a little better. Today he is sleeping and still acts=
weak but is eating more.

Thank you so much Sherry
