Sherry, things like this can be really frustrating to figure out. I see so=
me similarities to a little male I recently cared for. =

This little guy had diarrhea, eventually passing frank blood. He had lost a=
lot of weight. He was being treated for helicobacter. In the end, he beg=
an gaining weight, but it was fluid retention.

What was wrong? He had a tumor on his intestines which began allowing food=
to leak into his abdominal cavity. No fever or other signs of peritonitis=
except for an abnormal xray. His entire abdominal cavity was cloudy. I h=
ope this isn't what is wrong with Sammy, but it is something to be consider=
ed.

Dehydration will cause a decrease in appetite. Keeping him hydrated may he=
lp boost his appetite. If you are feeding a soft food, extra water can bbe=
added to try to keep him hydrated.

Also, I have had glucose readings taken at the vet's vary widely like that.=
On one visit to the vet they are stressed, the next, they aren't. The se=
cond reading is probably more accurate than the first. (Frankie was around=
120 the first time, I think 46 the second visit.)

Another thing that can cause a bloody stool is coccidia. Coccidia destroy =
the lining of the intestines, causing a mucousy stool and if it gets bad en=
ough, it can cause a bloody stool. It is easy enough to treat for coccidia=
if that is what it is. Coccidia is an intestinal parasite that can be dia=
gnosed by looking for the eggs, but the oocytes can be difficult to find in=
a stool sample, so the absence does not mean there isn't an infestation. =
It is treated very simply with Albon.

If it is recurring helicobacter, I usually see improvement at day 10, but t=
hat is using Biaxin and Amoxi. I don't know what the response time is for =
the Flagyl/Amoxi treatment.

Best wishes for little Sammy,
Julie
