Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: spontaneous internal bleeding?
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Black stools are symptoms of an ulcer. Has this ferret been getting Carafate liquid, preferably spaced so that it is not given within a half hour of any food or 45 minutes of any other meds? That is the wonderful med for "bandaging" ulcers.

Has a massive coccidia bloom been considered? Colitis? Has a run of Albon been used?

Remember that raisins are hard on the GI tract and that multiple raisins at once can cause acute kidney failure in a ferret. According to a past issue of the Ferret Mailing List the current revised number in a female ferret (from Dr. Kawaski who has spoken about this) for creating the possibility of this problem is 7 at one time. Hopefully, the raisins were just a little hard on an already ill GI tract and she will improve.

Sadly, it is also possible that she may be beginning to go into shock.

She really, absolutely needs an emergency appointment right now if you have not already gone in.
