Subject: [ferrethealth] Fungus on ferret sides?
To: "ferret health list" <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

I have a very white silver male, Silverado, who last Fall was getting thin
fur and reddish patches on both sides of his abdomen. I took a wait and see,
and over Winter it pretty much resolved itself. Then this Spring it came
back. This time I took him in for a skin scraping and cytology. Nothing
found, so I thought I'll take the nutritional route and have started adding
a little Nupro to his chicken gravy.
So last week I did a pick-up on three ferrets from Phoenix and there is a
white one that looks almost the same. And he has the same spots. Owners did
take him to their vet who could find nothing but dispensed anti-fungal
creme, 2% miconazole nitrate, same stuff as anti-yeast and athlete's foot
cure. It doesn't seem to be doing anything except making his coat a mess.
So now I am wondering if this is just a way of blowing the coat and it shows
up more on the white ones, or does anyone have any other thoughts.
Thanks for your input.

Carol Owens,

Tucson
