Subject: [ferrethealth] castrated ferrets and sexual behaviour
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

hello everyone,

wanted to get you opinion about the situation my friend is experiencing now=
with her ferrets. She has two fixed males at home. In the beginning of the=
spring one started to mark the territory and another one started trying to=
make sexual intercourse with the one marking the territory. =

Now the first one stopped marking the territory, but the second one still t=
ries to mate.

When she first told me this what came to my mind was =93adrenal=94 as I do =
not believe that such behaviour can be normal. I suggested her to visit her=
vet. Vet assured her that this is normal behaviour while trying to establi=
sh hierarchy at home and it will pass. =

One would say that she should try another vet, but the problem is that in o=
ur country vets are really inexperienced with ferrets and this vet for the =
best of my knowledge knows the most about these creatures. So basically the=
re is nowhere else to go. In addition to that my friend believes the vet=92=
s opinion absolutely and is sure that there is nothing wrong with her ferre=
ts although I have expressed my doubts about his diagnosis.

The first ferret now already has scratches on his neck and even eyelid was =
scratched.

So my question is if by any chance this can be normal?????

than you for your opinions.
