It would seem to me that the mg/dl of glucose in blood would be the same regardless of whether it was glucose in human blood or glucose in ferret blood. Is this not so? Robin>

Robin, I don't know where the 20% came from. I usually add 10 points to whatever I get because that was the difference I generally got when I tested my Freestyle meter against the value my vet's results.

It could be that once you start getting higher readings in a diabetic ferret the blood glucose reading on the hand held meter would be off by a larger amount, but I only view my glucose readings as a quick inexpensive way of tracking, anyway.

I would suspect the reason ferret blood reads differently could be due to ferrets having a higher packed cell volume than human blood. Maybe one of the vets can enlighten us.
