Subject: [ferrethealth] Buddy Needs Help!!
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
My ferret, Buddy, has almost completely lost movement in his hind legs, and I think he's just giving up on life. This is the third ferret I've had with similar problems recently, and the other two died in my arms, about a year apart. I don't have any clue what this is, or why this is happeneing. Is there some sort of disease or virus that could be passed on, from cagemates?
Buddy has always had loose stools, and he's pretty much blind from cataracts. He's been on Purina One salmon & Tuna for cats, since it seemed to be the only cat food that agreed with his (and his cagemate's) belly. Buddy now does this odd teeth chattering thing, and just lays there, drooling, staring off into space. These symptoms (including mobility issues,) just showed up less than a week ago.
His cagemate, Spice, before she died a few months ago, lost most of her fur over about a year's period, then couldn't move her back legs, for a very short time before she died (less than a week). Spice's cagemate before Buddy, Sugar, lost total mobility in her hind legs, and lived immobilized for a few months.
If any doctors out there or anyone with similar problems can give me an idea what this could possibly be, PLEASE help!!!
Thank you...
