Subject: [ferrethealth] Allergies
To: <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

Yes,I think unfortunately owning ferrets has led to drastic breathing problems
for me. It wasn't until my late 30's that I developed asthma after "acquiring"
many ferrets, and having several bouts of pneumonia. Wound up on allergy shots
eventually(still taking them) and pills and inhalers. I asked if there were
any serum for ferrets, as I noticed there were some for guinea pigs and
rabbits, and was told not. After contacting the company that produced those
several times, I just gave up. Couldn't budge me from my life with them
though, guess I'll just have to up the meds. To be fair, other factors may
include mold in the walls( we live in a basement apt. of an old bldg) and work
related dusts and allergens ( I clean for a living). Funny, the serum people
acted like they had never before even heard of ferrets. Glad I'm not the only
one whose thought of this!
