Subject: [ferrethealth] time it takes lupron to work, stop sexual behaviors
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
I have a 3.5 year old MF male (Pecan) that I have put on lupron and melaton=
in due to his ear sucking and humping of other ferrets. He has been on Mela=
tonin since August, once every 3 months (implant). Lupron since February. Fi=
rst two doses (feb & March) were double doses. Since about May 15th he has =
gotten ridiculous in how often he is tormenting the others, one old adrenal=
/insulinomic ferret (Diablo) in particular. He had his June shot a week ago=
(June 2) and I still haven't seen any change in his behavior. Tonight I ca=
ught him actually dragging Diablo by his EAR! Poor thing screaming from the=
pain. I now have them separated for Diablo' sake and safety. I thought sin=
ce hormones work so rapidly that I should have seen some change by now. I h=
ave had him examined to see if he has a testicle and was told no. Should we=
look further? Perhaps an ultrasound. He gets worse every spring and fall. =
It is definately cyclic. Do I need to go back to double doses of Lupron EVE=
RY month. Pecan isn't aggressive in any other way. He plays normal, doesn't=
seem over dominate or mean. Just this crazy ear sucking and humping. =
Thanks in advance for the advice, MJB =
