Subject: [ferrethealth] mediastinal lymph node enlargement
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has ever had experience with a ferret having enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes. These are lymph nodes that are in the chest near the lungs and trachea. My ferret also has enlarged abdominal nodes and showed a diffusely thickened small intestinal wall on ultrasound.
She had aspirates done of both the mediastinal and abdominal nodes. The mediastinal aspirate pulled out fat only, so that cytology report was inconclusive. The aspirate from the abdominal node, showed some kind of endocrine related cells.
The vets are leaning towards lymphoma here, but we will be doing further tests this week. Diagnosis is open.
Does anyone know what else can cause generalized enlarged lymph nodes, especially mediastinal?
The differential right now is inflamation from the many reoccurances of ECE symptoms that she has had for the last year or so... Any ideas?
Thanks
