Just to provide a different experience--my ferret Cully had
lymphoma-caused insulinoma which presented fairly normally and
he was fortunate enough to get another year and a half after
diagnosis at about age 6.5 years. Note that I am talking
about just lymphoma, not carcinoma. His lymphoma was
discovered when he was opened up for adrenal surgery (the
adrenal enlargement was also caused by the lymphoma, as it
turned out). At that time, the vet noted irregularities of
the surface of his pancreas as well as enlarged abdominal
lymph nodes, all of which were aspirated for samples as long
as they were already in there. So we knew for sure it was all
lymphoma. We hadn't noted insulinoma symptoms before the
surgery, but since his fasting blood glucose was about 80 at
that time (and actually remained at about 80 for the rest of
his life) the effect of the lymphoma on his pancreas wasn't
too severe. We went with pediapred for treatment, and he did
well on that; although we hadn't noted symptoms of insulinoma
before, we definitely noticed him perking up once his recovery
from surgery was complete. I wish at the time that I knew
more about the importance of high protein during these
illnesses, or that something like carnivore care or wysong
archetype had been available (or known to me).

The lymphoma finally got him when it moved into his bone
marrow, but as I said, he got a good run after diagnosis,
living to over age 8, so if it does turn out to be caused by
lymphoma, take a deep breath, and provide your fuzzy with good
supportive care.

Regina
