Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with enlarged abdomen

(To moderator : I need help very quickly; is it possible to get this on the=
list very quickly)HiNeed help quickly. 1 y.o. ferret with acute enlarged a=
bdomen(trying to get pictures). Treated couple months ago for diarrhoea and=
slightly distended abdomen. Bloodwork normal. Ultralyd normal.Contrast X-r=
ay G.I.tract normal. Treated with short course antibiotics. 2 weeks ago sli=
ght recurrence, treated 10 days amoxicillin. Better. Then owner came back f=
rom work to find ferrets abdomen sistended to more than twice the size (up =
to 4X normal size). Ferret lethargic. Lymphnodes - prescap + axillary+popli=
teal er enlarged. Prescaps enlarged to point where can see gross enlargemen=
t, others markedly enlarged on palp. X-ray abdomen + chest normal. FNA pres=
cap lymphnodes yielded only fat cells. Ultrasound abdomen normal. Ulrasound=
lymphnodes - normal architecture+size, but surrounded by alot fat. Abdomen=
- he thinks it was fat in there, nothing suspicious. I know ferrets can no=
rmally have alot fat around their lymph nodes, but so much that grossly enl=
arged- can this happen? Can you get loads of fat deposition in the abdomen =
enough to enlarge it 300-400%? This can=B4t happen so quickly(hours) can it=
? Ferret is bit lethargic and hampered by huge abdomen. Intact ferret but u=
terus Ok on ultasound. Any metabolic disturbances which can lead to abnorma=
l fat distribution? Anyone seen this before?Suggestions? I=B4ll repeat bloo=
