Stephanie,
About 10 months ago my wife and I rescued a female Panda (Lilo)from Clemmons
NC. She seemed fine but was thin and flea infested. We treated her with frontline
for kittens and then took her to the vet for a checkup and because she seemed to
have some sort of respitory ailment. It seemed fairly minor and she was put on
clavamox. Within the week she started developing sores on her mouth and around
her eyes which spread over her body and to her feet. The vet was stumped,
although he was sure that it was not distemper. We suspected that it may have
been an allergic reaction to the frontline but she did not respond benadryl. She
maintained her appetite for about 3 weeks but the last couple of days she would not
eat or drink. Looking at the pictures of white Daryl caused some very sad memories
to come flooding back. He appears to have the same disease that Lilo did and I
have always wondered if we did her a diservice by not having her put down. We just
kept hoping that something would work and she would get better. The only
suggestion I can make is that if he stops eating, he has given up and it is time.
Until then I hope someone knows what this dreadful disease is and how it can be
treated and contacts you in time.
Good luck,
Jim Foster
