Having been through an outbreak of coccidia last summer, I'm very suspicious that
coccidia might be causing the trouble. The "red" stool especially causes me
concern.
For our critters, coccidia was immediately apparent in stool checks. However,
during the course of my research I spoke to another shelter operator who described
a week or more of critters being incredibly ill with clear stool checks over and over,
until finally one sample showed coccidia. ??? We only had one girl who was deathly
ill with a "low count" if you will; that is, she had truly awful poo and was clearly
affected, but the sample showed only one "egg."
I might just try the Albon treatment. I WISH I had taken photos of the coccidia poo;
alas I did not. When critters were seriously sick, the poo was red/brown...oh, I
might mix marshino cherry juice with a Wendy's frosty to get the proper color. But
it also looked like the foundation for the color was Karo syrup...make any sense at
all? :)
Of course since we've been through the nightmare of coccidia I'm sure I'm paranoid
and seeing it around every corner. :(
