Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Coccidia
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Personally, I have had ferrets show signs of coccidial infection without the
parasite showing up on multiple fecal samples - I have treated these ferrets
for coccidia based on clinical signs and have had the problem resolve. The
medication to treat coccidia (Albon) is not completely innocuous, but is safe
enough that in the case I describe, I felt very comfortable going ahead and
treating based on suspicion.

Perhaps these sick ferrets could benefit from a course of Albon. It
certainly would be worth pursuing, as the first thought I had based on the description
of their illness was coccidia.
