Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: adrenal disease/cushings disease
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
Hi
I have experienced 2 ferrets with adrenal in the UK. My vet wasn't experienced and would not agree that it was adrenal and wanted to wait. Ended up changing vets and being referred to ferret specialist in Andover (Ask me for the address if this location is near you).
One had left adrenal removed in December and has been on fine form since. I expect it will appear again in later life though.
I also know of other ferret vets who do not operate and choose medication instead. This can show a decline in the symptoms, but other vets think this is just a mask of the symptoms and the adrenal tumour is still growing.
It's very difficult when your vet doesn't know about ferrets.
I found this info useful for a UK perspective.

Hope this is of some help.
