Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: DVMs Please: transmission of coccidia
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Me again.

In the first message in this thread I was primary interested in resolving conflicting
information regarding how redially coccidia could be transmitted from a infected kit
to its business-mates (two healthy adults in my case.)

I have also found conflicting information as to the effects of such an exposure on
healthy adult ferrets. Some places seem to be saying that it is highly likely that my
kit could infect my two health adults and cause them to show clinical signs of the
infection in 14+ days, while others seem to say that such an infection will almost
always be suppressed by a healthy adults immune system, and so will almost
certainly stay sub-clinical and untimely be eliminated.

I would appreciate it if the DVMs and knowledgeable list members would help me
sort out this conflicting information as well. (If the latter is in fect the case then it is
probably the reason my vet discounted coccidia as being the problem - something I
have been trying to figure out.)

thanks
