Subject: [ferrethealth] UPDATE on Peanut 06-28-06
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

First, I want to say thank you all so much for the prayers and words of
support, I really do appreciate them all.

Now for Peanut!

She was taken back to the vet's yesterday for surgery, my doing, and the vet
refused to do much of anything. He seems to think her condition is from her
getting into something that poisoned her. I don't, but then I'm not a vet or vet
tech.
Her tummy measures 9 1/2 inches around.
She still is not eating or drinking on her own and she really stresses out
when we feed her by syringe to the point of wetting herself.
She is getting her Sub-Q fluids twice daily and all her medications.
Her urine has gone from dark brown to olive green to a very pale green. She
is still sleeping a lot, but even as sick as she is, she is still very loving.
I broke down last night from the stress of her condition and she gave me nose
nudges and the look on her face was, "It's going to be OK Mom, don't worry".
She had a small bowel movement last night around midnight, it was very dry
and dense, then this morning when I checked her she had a 1/4" piece of poop
stuck in her bottom.
Rachel from the vets office just called and I updated her on how Peanut is
doing. She said that if the bloating doesn't decrease and if she continues to
have problems with bowel movements, they are going to want us to bring her in
and they are going to "get to the bottom of what is going on with her once and
for all". I'm not holding my breath over that statement.
The state where I live doesn't have a lot of ferret vets and I thought when I
read his education and experience information, as well as talking to other
ferret owners, that this vet would be a caring, knowledgeable vet for the kids,
but after all this I'm not so sure. When it comes to be babies in my care, I
am VERY picky about the medical care they receive.
I'm praying very hard that his reluctance doesn't cause my baby girl to pay
the ultimate price.

Chris
