The first thing I thought of when reading your post is that you are not feeding enough with the pred. They need to have a pretty full tummy to help avoid stomach issues/ulcers. I feed a good 30-40mL of soup with each and every pred dose. I usually feed about half the soup, give the pred, and then the other half.
Secondly, talk to your vet about both increasing the dosage, and about giving twice a day instead of once.
