Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Pictures of Peanut
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Things are loading slowly today. I sent a post giving the location (Cows Moo Too photo album in the Pictures section of the website and the URL) and another post going into the most basics on common causes of ascites (which really alters the take on your posts) and that ascites itself can sometimes cause too much pressure on the intestines. I asked if what was removed was found to be the sort of fluid from ascites, or if there might also have been any signs of peritonitis. Also, I mentioned that instead of just a CBC Peanut needs a CBC with Chemistry Panel. Each of those was just touched upon because there is so little information at this point.

It DOES make me wonder again, though about this:

>Mare, for after she gets past this problem, she may have too much vegetable matter >in her diet. 7.5 is on the alkaline side for ferret urine and I noticed the struvite >debris mention.

I would really like to see kidney numbers and to know if she might have a urinary blockage or back-up from those crystals anywhere. That can also cause severe constipation. Since your vet ran urine I think that you vet may also have concerns along this line. Kidney numbers from a CBC WITH CHEMISTRY PANEL would be useful, so would rerunning the specific gravity and the urine pH. Has a urine acidifier been considered?
