Mercurochrome or iodine will stain the area around a cut or sliver. In the case of a
wood sliver, it stains the foreign object, but it won't do that with glass. Still, staining
the skin around a piece of glass will draw visual attention to the glass more easily.

The iodine is not a fun experience, sometimes very painful, depending on if infection
has started to set in or not. It works ok with humans who can understand, but might
not for ferrets. The mercurochrome may not be available any longer, but if you can
find it, it would be a better option - less burning.
