Debbie,

Pumpkin will give bulk to your ferret's stool. It is a good additive if your ferret has chronic diarrhea that doesn't respond to any other treatment. You do not want the pumpkin that is ready to use in a pie. You need plain canned pumpkin. Ask at your grocery store if you aren't able to find where they keep it.

Buy the smallest can, and freeze it in smaller portions, maybe one half cup portions or less, and defrost them as you need it. When I gave it to Spike, I started about half soup, half pumpkin, then as her stool improved, I decreased the pumpkin until she was getting mostly soup but didn't have diarrhea.

Baby food bananas will provide the same benefit, however the bananas will turn brown. If your ferrets don't care, it will work, too. If you are dealing with insulinoma, I'ld stick with the pumpkin, though.

Since the pumpkin has a lot of fiber, it will make the soup thick, so add a little at a time as you'll need to add more water too, so they will eat it.

Good luck,
Julie
