That truly is tragic news.

What you need right now is help on how to get the most accurate results.

Remember that a necropsy without pathology by a ferret pathologist will often give no answer or can give a wrong answer; that point has many times been repeated by the experts. (Remember, too, the info on yellow liver that has already been supplied.)

Here are some past posts of Dr. Bruce Williams which will help you get the the most accurate results. Remember that info is rapidly lost if tissues are not promptly fixed. It has been a long time since these have appeared as anything beyond being referenced, but they can help a lot of people, so they are posts all should read. Some of these exactly fit your needs while others tackle some related aspects which might prove useful to know.

Dr. Williams also has a current Ferrets Magazine article explaining how to get the best results from pathology which I highly recommend people get before it leaves the newsstands, and this older one for vets:
