About limiting feeding when you have multiple ferrets eating
from the same dish--one of my ferrets came to me pretty obese
and became more so with time. He had been a stray and was a
compulsive overeater as a result (at least that's our
theory--he had a clean bill of health at the vet's, apart from
the weight). I couldn't cut back on the kibble because my two
ferrets share a dish, but what I did do is break myself of the
habit of putting more kibble in there every time it looked
low. I realized I really was overfeeding them, which was fine
for a ferret who knew his limits but not for a ferret who
overate. I started adding kibble just twice a day, and not
too much the second time if they hadn't eaten all of the first
serving. In the morning I'd throw out whatever was left from
the day before and start all over again. The overweight
ferret did indeed lose weight, and my other ferret fended for
himself just fine. So it can be done, at least with just two
ferrets.
