I'm not the most experienced person, but the following struck me:

>But now he just lies there and watches... then goes back to bed or begs for food.

Any time I've had a craving for certain foods, or just a pure hunger, but I didn't know
what I wanted, it's turned out that I needed something I wasn't getting. I've seen it in
animals, too, but don't know if that's his case.

It may be that his body needs something it's not getting. It may be that there is
something in him (like a malfunctioning gland, or a tumor... sorry) that "wants"
something it's not getting from his food, or not getting enough of.

It's just something to consider...

Good luck with this guy!

Debbie
