The only treatment with any chance of long term success in a ferret is decompression of the disc by surgery.
Other treatment such as traction and manipulation would not be practical in my opinion. Pain relief and anti inflammatories may give some short term help but the condition will almost certainly worsen over time.
New forms of surgical treatment (as distinct from conventional spinal decompression) include such treatments as percutaneous laser decompression using a fine "needle" through the skin to burn away the disc material which is compressing the spinal cord, avaiable for humans, but perhaps not ferrets and would need MRI or similiar scan to plan the operation.
Elmo may not show it but is probably suffering pain similiar to sciatica in humans.
