Subject: [ferrethealth] Very Odd Hairloss

My ferret gets an itchy spot right between his shoulder blades every once i=
n a while and he scratches it constantly for a couple days then just stops.=
Recently this happened a few days longer than normal so I bathed him and =
cleaned his cage very well to get anything that might be bothering him. He=
has a 'Carefresh' base and a litterbox with corn-litter to control any ale=
rgies. About a day or two later he decided he no longer liked his food and=
would only eat my cats food, Science Diet KD. So I bought him the kitten =
formula and he was happy. Soon after I noticed he was grinding his teeth s=
o I checked his gums for any stuck food and found none, but he resumed grin=
ding as soon as I let him go. He has since stopped this but it gets weirde=
r. He scratched his itchy spot compltetly bald so I decided to get some an=
ti-itch spray. Before I got a chance, over the next 2 days, ALL of his hai=
r fell out. No pattern whatsover, just bald almost overnight. I started a=
dding Ferritone to his food which he's crazy about, and slowly his hair's c=
oming back. First some of the longer colored hair, then a standstill in gr=
owth, then some of the down, and now it seems to be at a standstill again. =
He has a healthy appetite, healthy curiosity, and so far no noticeable tum=
ors. I'm not sure on his exact age since the people I adopted him from wer=
en't sure, but I guestimate about 5yrs old. Now I've had a few others and =
know what to keep an eye out for but this is baffling. My vet's clueless wh=
en it comes to ferrets, and the only one in the area that knows anything is=
rude and charges an arm and a leg for nothing. So I'm hoping someone's ru=
n across this before?
