She replied that she did not do testing for ADV and that it was not
necessary. When I expressed a bit of surprised she said that this was consistent with
some super guru DVM (I don't want to name a name him/her, as I may have
misunderstood something, but the name is reasonably well know)

Is there conflicting views on ADV testing within the DVM community?

**There is actually a great deal of divergence between those of us who feel
that every pet ferret should be tested at least once and those at higher risk
should be tested more often (I breed and show, so my personal ferrets are
tested twice yearly, alternating test types) and those of my colleagues who feel
that testing is not needed. I have been involved in quite a few heated debates
about the subject, actually.

The only way to know if your ferret(s) have been exposed to the disease and
are at risk of illness is to test. Some of us think that it's a good idea to
know that - some of us don't, apparently. But then, there are still vets who
don't test dogs for heartworm disease and don't test cats for feline leukemia.

Yes, it's science - but as always, science is up for interpretation.**
