Subject: [ferrethealth] Ringers Shelf Life?

I have not been able to find anywhere (although it's quite likely I missed it) the shelf life of an open bag of Ringers (sub-q fluid). I used it for my cat twice, but she passed away. I would like to keep it around "in case of emergency" with my ferrets, but only for as long as it's good.
Also, is the "needle" used for a cat the same size as used for a ferret? If not, what size do I need for the fuzzies?
Any info would be appreciated.
