Subject: [ferrethealth] Ringers Shelf Life?
To: <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

An open bag of any kind of fluids should not be kept for more than a week.
This is what we learned in veterinary technology school. The needle size is
more preference than anything else . The larger the size needle, the faster
the fluids will go through. I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 22 Gauge
needle and nothing larger than an 18 G.

The opened bag can be saved and warmed in the microwave for when you need a
hot "water bottle." We used them in the hospital for sick animals or
post-op. Just microwave them for 1-3 minutes depending on the strength of
your microwave.
